Choosing between this or that. Spending my time on this NOT that.
If you watch any crime investigation series they have a test for identifying almost anything. Priorities are the test that goes way beyond one’s words to see what is in a person’s heart and what they cherish most.
Seeing another person’s priorities by their behavior, actions and choices gives us a good idea of who a person is and what they feel is important for them to achieve.
Life constantly presents us with choices. Daily. This makes understanding our priorities very important to becoming more effective and able to get closer to our goals. When two different choices are before us what will help us decide which one to choose? It will be our clearly defined priorities that will lead us in the right direction.
I want to work in a research lab. But I don’t want to go to college. The person who might say this hasn’t made education a high enough priority to realize their goal.
This summer I want to lose 10 pounds. But I don’t want to go to the gym. I don’t want to give up going out at night to eat and party. The person who says this hasn’t made self-discipline a high enough priority to help them realize their goal.
We hear a lot about goals. We dream a lot of dreams.
We need to spend more time on clearly defining our priorities to achieve them both.
